Here’s what you’ll learn and achieve over the nine course modules.
Module 1: Equipment. You’ll learn where to find and buy a quality, inexpensive USB desktop microphone. You’ll also learn where to find and buy the same budget, value-for-money headphones that I currently use in the studio. You’ll also find a pop filter and microphone stand.
Module 2: Script Preparation. You’ll learn how to structure, edit, and optimize your script in preparation for recording.
Module 3: Recording Software. You’ll find where to download and how to install free recording software for Windows and Mac.
Module 4: Recording Your Voice. You’ll learn how to prepare your recording space and connect your microphone and headphones. You’ll learn how to set up project folders for your tracks and files, apply vocal and recording techniques, and record your voice.
Module 5: Creating Music and Soundscapes. You’ll learn how and where to source or create royalty-free background music, atmospheres, and soundscapes, and understand the relevant licensing permissions.
Module 6: Basic Editing. You’ll learn how to import music and background files into your recording software. You’ll also learn how to compose, trim, and fade your vocal and music parts to prepare a finished track ready for mixing.
Module 7: Basic Mixing and Mastering. You’ll learn to use basic equalization, compression, and effects to achieve a polished master recording. You’ll also look for budget online mastering and learn how to outsource your mixing and mastering if desired.
Module 8: Backing Up. In this module, you’ll learn to save and back up your work in your project folders and save copies off-site in Dropbox and Google Drive.
Module 9: Releasing Your Recording. Here, you’ll learn to create cover artwork using Canva. Then you’ll create a digital-distribution account with ReverbNation so you can sell your release on iTunes, Amazon, and more than 50 other online retailers.
I’ve also included a full list of all links referred to throughout this course. That way, you can study the online aspects more closely at your leisure as we progress.
