Module 2: Script Preparation.
Your script is the personal message you’ll share with the world. When recording a script for the first time, there are several ways to make the task simple, relaxed, and enjoyable. Here are some tips to optimize your script and make the recording seamless.
First, create the script in Word if you’re a Windows user or Pages if you’re a Mac user. This is the script I’ll use for the sample meditation later in the course.
Choose a simple font such as Arial and set it to a comfortable size so the script is legible from a distance and easy to read. Arial at 12 points is a useful standard starting size. Use 1.5-line spacing as well; open the paragraph settings and select 1.5.
Keep paragraphs to two or three sentences. Small, bite-sized sections are easier to read from the page.
Use page breaks when paginating the script. Don’t end a page in the middle of a sentence or paragraph because turning the page will disrupt your reading flow. Move the entire paragraph onto a new page whenever it would otherwise be split.
Check the script for spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors. Remove unnecessary formatting such as italics if it makes the text harder to read. Finally, print copies of the script for the recording session. We now have a much more legible and readable recording script.
Another useful technique is to remove phrases or sections that repeat. This shortens the recording session because you can record a repeated passage once and copy and paste it throughout the track during editing. In this script, I’ll remove the duplicated passage and leave a simple instruction such as “Repeat section.” That gives us the final printed copy.
